About the event
Advent, originating from the Latin word "adventus" meaning "coming," denotes a period of eager anticipation and preparedness as we anxiously await the commemoration of Christ's arrival in human form on Christmas day. This sacred season of readiness encompasses the four Sundays leading up to Christmas and signals the beginning of the Church year.
Each Sunday in Advent is dedicated to specific themes that uplift and guide us in our anticipation and preparation. As we initiate this first Sunday in Advent, our focus centers on the theme of Hope.
Today marks the commencement of Advent—a time when we once again prepare for the advent of Jesus. Lighting a candle each week serves as a poignant reminder that Jesus brings illumination to the darkest corners of the world. The prophet Isaiah paints a vision of a future characterized by peace for all nations as they walk in the light of the Lord. In hopeful anticipation of the fulfillment of this prophecy, we light the candle of Hope, declaring that God's light is poised to enter the world.
